Message from the President

Hello and welcome to the Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers website. We thank you for taking the time to learn more about the programs and services we provide.

Since 1981, Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers has been committed to improving quality of life and reducing isolation and vulnerability among seniors and adults with physical disabilities in the communities in which they live. We operate in Toronto’s downtown core and within some of the city’s most at-risk communities providing much needed services such as friendly visiting, medical & shopping escorts, and social circles.

The ageing process can be difficult, both physically and mentally, but can be made easier when we feel a sense of belonging and worth. Many within our communities are isolated with no circle of friends or family and are living on a fixed income. These individuals rely heavily on organizations like Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers to provide them with programs and services designed to promote social connectedness, and help them maintain faith and dignity and a degree of independent living.

Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers is a small but impactful non-profit organization fuelled by the tireless efforts of our staff and never-ending compassion of our volunteers. The need for its programs and services is ever increasing and in order for us to continue to serve the members of our communities, we are in need of your support. Be it by becoming a volunteer or offering a financial donation, we encourage you to join Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers and share in the joy that is in helping others.

With gratitude,

Karen Hawkins
